To develop a user-friendly and flexible Kwakol Funds app that enhances investment management by implementing new features like a wallet system, streamlined fund transfers, real-time notifications, and beneficiary profiles, while offering multi-currency support to improve overall user experience and accessibility.
I started with user research, employing both qualitative and quantitative methods to gain deep insights into user needs and behaviors. I interviewed with current users to identify gaps in the previous version they were using. I also facilitated user journey mapping sessions to understand pain points and opportunities for enhancing user experience.
Research also revealed that clients were not actively using the previous app, and a lot of instructions were sent through email. This was mostly due to lack of functionalities on the previous version. The introduction of wallet, beneficiaries, deposit and withdrawal rates and other functionalities proved to be vital.
The current userbase proved to be influential in guiding the design process. Their data and feedback were collated iteratively for continuous refinement. I focused on creating an intuitive user interface that simplified complex financial concepts, through a straight-forward information architecture to make information more digestible.
Target Audience - One of the significant challenges was addressing the diverse needs of our target audience, which ranged from novice investors to seasoned professionals.
Financial Complexity - Balancing the simplicity of the app’s interface with the complexity of the financial data it needed to present was another challenge.
Onboarding - I initially set up the onboarding with a KYC verification platform but during development, a lot of issues were faced integrating with them, so the process had to be changed. We had to simply the process to ensure client data were still secure without affecting the onboarding.
Learning - A lot of the users were in their 50s so we had to set up a training for the account managers to guide them and also set up another one with the users.
Exchange Rates - There was no API for the rates, so we had to set up a dashboard for an admin to be updating the rates manually as they are announced.
Data Transfer - As there was an overhaul and we didn’t want to disrupt the flow of the previous version, we set up a different backend for the new app and some data had to be transferred manually.
The redesigned app greatly improved user experience and engagement, with over a thousand downloads within the first week. We also received positive feedback from users.
The research and design process had a significant impact on the final product. By continuously testing and iterating, we were able to create an app that not only met user needs but also exceeded expectations in terms of usability and aesthetic appeal. The user-centric approach led to a product that was well-received by both novice and experienced investors, ultimately contributing to its success in the market.
